Divapalooza! Coming to Wautoma

The rollicking show “Divapalooza” will be coming to Wautoma’s McComb/Bruchs Performing Arts Center on Saturday, February 15th at 7:00 PM. The performance is being sponsored Silvercryst Supper Club, WAUH Radio, Dogger’s Bar & Lanes, Stevens Accounting LLC, Pioneer Floral & Greenhouse, and M.B.P. Builders. The concert is billed as a “celebration of women in music and a great night out!”

Imagine Aretha Franklin, Janis Joplin and Bette Midler all together on one stage – 3 magnificent solo artists combining to perform the hits you love. That, in a nutshell, is the experience of “Divapalooza”. With an incredible back-up band, the ladies in this trio have each garnered well deserved comparisons to their more famous counterparts. Janelle Lauer tears it up as the explosive rhythm & blues powerhouse; Jane Pini is the embodiment of a 69’s rock & roll acid queen; and Lynne Rothrock provides elegant vocals and saucy, hilarious stage banter. A sampling of the Divas whose music has been part of their show includes: Aretha Franklin, Tina turner, Janis Joplin, Grace Slick, Kristin Chenowith, Shania Twain, Bette Midler, Dolly Parton, Dusty Springfield, Diana Ross, Patti LaBelle, Liza Minnelli, and Pat Benetar.

Jane Pini’s musical career began in the ’60’s as a lead singer and keyboardist for rock & roll bands. She has over 40 years’ experience performing throughout the U.S. and has had a recording career since she released her solo album “Hunger for Reality” in 1979. Pini took a break from performing to raise a family & establish a career as a psychotherapist, & came back into performing seriously in 1994. Jane is also the proud mom of fellow Diva, Janelle Lauer.

Janelle Lauer began singing with her mother’s band when she was three years old and hasn’t stopped since. She attended the University of Iowa on a vocal performance scholarship & also studied Music Business at Belmont University in Nashville, TN. She has appeared in many productions at Theatre Cedar Rapids and was a long time performer for the popular Liar’s Holographic Radio Theatre that was seen on Iowa Public Television. She has released three CD’s: “Janelle Lauer Live at Liars” (2003), “Turn the Corner” (2005) & “Change” (2008). She is also a founding member of SPT Theatre of Cedar Rapids, works as musical director at Theatre Cedar Rapids, and teaches private voice lessons.

Lynne Rothrock grew up in Cedar Rapids & holds music degrees from Luther College & Western Michigan University. She has worked as a performer & arts educator in St. Paul, Seattle & Nashville, where she developed a solo music career after working for a variety of theatre companies as performer & musical director. Lynne has released three CD’s – “This is Me” (2002), “Christmas” (2006) and “I Love Being Here” (2008). She has served on the voice faculty of several universities and is a frequent adjudicator at choral music festivals around the country. Lynne and her husband also work as headline entertainers for Holland America Cruise Lines.
The talented backup band includes guitarist Ron DeWitte, keyboardist Gerard Estella, bassist Dave Ollinger, and Greg Kanz on drums.
